SNAP-8: Research Overview and Mechanism
SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a synthetic cosmetic octapeptide studied in laboratory research as a mimic of the N-terminal domain of SNAP-25, a SNARE-complex protein, within neuromuscular-signaling and dermal-fibroblast models. It is a C-terminal-extended analog of Argireline, adding an alanine and an aspartate to the parent hexapeptide sequence. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder for research use only and is not approved for human use.
What SNAP-8 is
SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is an N-acetylated, C-amidated synthetic octapeptide with the sequence Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH2 and a molecular weight near 1075.2 g/mol. It is a C-terminal-extended analog of Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8), adding an alanine and an aspartate residue to the parent hexapeptide.
Both peptides are modeled on the N-terminal sequence of SNAP-25, which makes them a matched pair for structure-activity comparison in cosmetic-peptide research: the two extra residues in SNAP-8 are the single structural variable between the two compounds.
Pathways it is studied within
In research, SNAP-8 is studied as a competitive mimic of the N-terminal fragment of SNAP-25. Within SNARE-complex biology that fragment is investigated for its ability to interfere with assembly of the SNARE fusion machinery that docks neurotransmitter vesicles, so the peptide is used as a tool in neuromuscular-signaling and catecholamine-release assays.
Alongside this, SNAP-8 appears in dermal-fibroblast research within the broader cosmetic-peptide literature. Every statement here describes what the octapeptide is used to study in laboratory models; none of it describes an effect in humans, and the material is not approved for human use.
Handling and documentation
Pinnacle SNAP-8 ships as a 10mg lyophilized powder. Its single methionine residue is the practical handling concern: methionine is prone to oxidation, so the sealed vial is stored at -20C protected from light and air to limit sulfoxide formation before reconstitution.
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water directed against the inner wall and swirl rather than shake, since foaming accelerates oxidation of a methionine-containing peptide. Every batch is doctoral chemist tested by HPLC and mass spectrometry and ships with a lot-matched Certificate of Analysis; our reconstitution and storage guide covers the handling detail.
